Natalie’s tips on curating content…
We get several emails from sites that we read regularly to keep us up-to-date on what’s going on in the world of social media and in the worlds that our clients live in. It’s a pain trying to sort emails into “Must Read” and “If I Have Time” categories because we all know anything in the “If I Have Time” category will never, ever get read.
How do we get through a lot of varied content in a short period of time and then curate what we’d like to repurpose? We use our Sprout Social + Feedly combo.
We regularly use Sprout Social to help us schedule content for our clients. To make it even more efficient, we connected our Feedly account to our Sprout Social account. This allows us to get through a ton of content quickly and find timely, relevant topics to share with followers.
We set up different feeds (one for social media, one for public relations, separate ones for client content) enabling us to batch browse articles from the sites we want to see! Any time we find a new site to follow, we just add it to our Feedly and categorize accordingly, then it’s automatically added to our Feeds > RSS Reader section in Sprout.
Sprout Social allows us to see each article’s title and a short blurb from the first paragraph. If we want to read more, just click on the “Expand” button, or click on the article’s source to be taken directly to the website.
There’s also a “Share” button, which automatically puts the article title and bit.ly address into a tweet so you can schedule, queue, or share it immediately.
Conclusion: Our Sprout Social + Feedly combo works like a charm. This process saves us time, cuts down on our emails, and allows us to read a review a ton of content quickly. It’s also easy to manage, and everybody likes easy!
